“Just for today I will not anger.
Just for today I will not worry.
Just for today I will do my work honestly.
Just for today I will be kind to all living things.
Just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings.”
– The Reiki Principles
What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a hands on healing energy system developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1920’s. The two Japanese words, Rei meaning flow and Ki meaning life force or universal life energy merge together to create the flow of universal energy that is Reiki. The energy is channeled by the reiki practitioner through the crown chakra, located on the top of the head into the palm chakras and onto the person receiving reiki. It is merely a transfer of the channeled life energy, none of the practitioners personal energy (including their personal illnesses or negative energy patterns) are transferred-only the universal energy comes through. The practitioner is just a channeler. There are symbols given from teacher to student to aid in channelling this universal energy. The recipient often feels warm, tingly sensations, or just feels calm and comfortable depending on the person. The practitioner may place their hands upon a person, hover the hands over the body, or send healing from a distance.
There are three levels of Reiki training, level one is focused on self healing.
The second level is focused on the healing of others and the student receives symbols.
Level three is mastery of the healing art.
Only after completing these three levels may the person wish to move on to becoming a Reiki Master/Teacher.
